Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee

Parliamentary Privilege

The SPPA Committee discussed a paper on parliamentary privilege at its meeting on 23 January 2023. That paper is available here.

Parliamentary privilege refers to the rights and immunities that protect Parliamentary proceedings and those who take part in them.

The Committee agreed to write to the individual political parties to seek their views on whether the current protections were sufficient.
