Scotland and UK’s Supply Chains

Letter to the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 16 December 2021

Dear Mr Barclay,

Scotland and UK’s Supply Chains

I wrote on 15 October inviting you to contribute to my Committee’s inquiry into Scotland’s supply chains. The inquiry terms of reference and details of evidence received can be found here. On 18 November a response was received from your correspondence office advising that you were unable to appear and were not “best placed to give evidence to the inquiry”. On that basis, I wrote to you again on 23 November asking which UK Government Minister would be best placed to assist us. No acknowledgement or response has been received.

I appreciate how busy you must be at this time, nevertheless at the Committee meeting yesterday, members noted their further disappointment at the lack of a response and agreed I should write again.

In the absence of a UK Government Minister being able to attend a meeting of this Committee, it would be extremely helpful to have a written contribution to our inquiry, setting out what action the UK Government is taking on supply chain problems, as they relate to Scotland, including key workforce and materials shortages.

If required, my clerks are happy to provide further details of the Committee’s inquiry. I look forward to hearing from you by 20 January.

Kind regards

Claire Baker MSP
Convener
