The Criminal Justice Committee is holding an inquiry into the impact of drug use and drug-related harm in Scotland’s prisons. The inquiry will explore how drugs and alcohol are entering the prison estate and the effects on the health and wellbeing of people in custody and prison staff.
It will consider the impact on those who have used substances, including the effect on their families, and the effectiveness of current responses, including treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation. It will include formal evidence sessions, prison visits, and opportunities to hear directly from people with lived experience and professionals who work in this environment.
The Committee is running a call for views to inform its inquiry into tackling substance misuse in Scottish Prisons.
The call for views closes on 22 August 2025
