The Royal College of General Practitioners has said that the walk-in centres are not the solution. You talk about them being complementary to GP practices. Would you describe how the walk-in centres are removing pressure from GPs?

Thank you, convener. I will go as quickly as I can. Thank you to the witnesses for coming today.
Cabinet secretary, in your opening statement you described the GP walk-in clinics as “popular”, but in July, they had only about 120 appointments a day, compared with about 136,000 GP contacts. Can that really be described as a popular uptick?

The Government plans to spend £36 million on GP walk-in clinics, as I understand it. How else could that money be spent in primary care to support GPs more directly?

I have a quick question for you, Mr Macleod. You just mentioned gatekeepers, which you also mentioned in your submission to the committee. Often, people in need of support are experiencing that gatekeeping instead of someone who will enable them to get the support that they want and need. Who exactly are the gatekeepers in that scenario? Is it those people on the front line who feel compelled to do that gatekeeping because they do not have access to the resources that they need? What would help us move from that gatekeeping to the enabling of care?

You have said that, when there have been attempts at reform in the past, some voices have been more dominant than others. Which voices do you feel have been unheard?

My question is for Scottish Care. In your submission to the committee, you said that you recognise the opportunities that are presented by reform of the system, but you also highlighted a projected funding gap across health and social care of almost £500 million. Would addressing the financial gap do more than or as much as restructuring the system?

Would it be fair to say that right now there is a lack of accountability and, ultimately, responsibility coming from the top?

Thank you all for coming today. Ms White, we hear a lot about the impact of delayed discharge on our national health service, and we often hear about issues concerning care packages and communities. What needs to be done during this parliamentary session to begin really tackling the issues around delayed discharge and care packages?

I have a final point. Crucially, part of the public sector reform agenda must be about investing in services, not stripping them back; it cannot only be about restructuring.

I thank everyone for coming along, and I echo what the convener said about those with lived experience and the toll that it takes to come to a session such as this one, so I thank you very much for that.
Mr McIver, you mentioned that there has been a lot of conversation about long Covid, and there have been policy recommendations et cetera, but that there is a real need for implementation. If you are comfortable doing so, will you talk about the experience—of yourself or the people you represent—of turning up at the GP and getting a diagnosis of long Covid? What happens then, and what is not happening?
