Do you have any additional concerns about GBR, if the UK Government continues to push for that current status? Is there any likelihood that that will change, or is anything likely to be done to make the situation easier?

Are there plans to further expand electrification in the central belt and Glasgow and improve the network with regard to its availability for the public?

Great—thanks for that. I will move on to Great British railways, which has been talked about a lot recently. Do you have an update on discussions with the United Kingdom Government about the memorandum of understanding? How have discussions with the new Government and your UK counterpart been in general?

I thank the cabinet secretary and his officials for coming today. I will pick up from where Collette Stevenson ended her questions on railways. Is there a timeline for completing the electrification of Scotland’s railway system?

The issue of railways and improving services across the country regularly comes up on the doors.
I will move on to ask about national smart ticketing. Do you envisage that changing the status of the national smart ticketing advisory board will help to speed up the delivery? You have already said publicly that smart ticketing will be delivered by 2031.

I will move on to the issue of bus priority, which we touched on a bit earlier. I learned over summer that some streets in Glasgow—albeit only a couple—use modern technology to alter the traffic light signal such that, if they detect a bus coming, they deliberately leave the light on green a bit longer to let the bus through. That is helpful, obviously. I am keen to know what other measures witnesses feel would help to prioritise buses.

I do not think that people who park their cars on Pollokshaws Road will be too happy about that.

I thank the panel for coming along today. As many of you will know, it is common practice in many European countries to have integrated ticketing systems, so I would be keen to understand why, from your perspective, we have been a bit slower in implementing such a system in Scotland and what difference it would make to residents across Scotland.
