Retirement

If you are considering retirement or partial retirement, the Pay and Pensions Team will normally submit your request to Capita, the Civil Service Pension Administrator, approximately four months before your planned retirement date.

Capita would usually issue a retirement quote around two months before your retirement date, either by post or through the Members Portal.

However, due to ongoing issues with Capita processing quotes and pension payments, we strongly encourage staff to begin the process at least six months before their intended retirement date.

At present, the Pay and Pensions Team is prioritising support for colleagues who have already retired/partially retired, or who are due to retire within the next few months.

If you are considering retirement (full or partial), please contact the Pay and Pensions Team directly for the most up-to-date position and guidance.

If you’re retired on grounds of ill health, your entitlement will be based on your pension scheme. To find out which pension scheme you’re in and for further details, you should look at your contract. If you need a copy of this, contact the People Services Team on 0131 348 6500.

McCloud Remedy

In 2015, the Government introduced reforms to public service pension schemes. The actions taken to address these reforms are known as the 2015 Remedy.

If you were a member of a public service pension scheme on or before 31 March 2012, your Civil Service pension may be affected by the 2015 Remedy.
