Scottish Parliament environmental policy
Our commitment
We are committed to integrating environmental sustainability into everything we do. This means considering environmental, social and economic impacts together in how we operate and make decisions. We recognise the connected challenges of climate change, nature loss and resource use, and our responsibility to contribute to a more sustainable future. We aim to lead by example as a public body.
Our approach
Through our Environmental Management System, we will:
- protect the environment, including preventing pollution, reducing emissions, supporting biodiversity and using resources sustainably
- comply with all applicable environmental legislation and other requirements
- continually improve our environmental performance and the effectiveness of our Environmental Management System.
This policy provides the framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets.
Our focus
We will focus on where we can make the biggest difference:
- reducing carbon emissions and adapting to climate change
- using energy, water and materials efficiently and reducing waste
- protecting and enhancing biodiversity
- supporting sustainable procurement and supply chains
- reducing travel impacts and promoting sustainable travel.
Embedding sustainability
We will embed sustainability across the organisation by:
- integrating environmental considerations into governance and decision-making
- aligning the Environmental Management System with our strategic priorities
- using data to monitor performance and inform action
- identifying and managing environmental risks and opportunities.
Working together
We will support employees, Members, contractors and partners to play their part, and communicate openly about our progress.
