There is a comprehensive post-council report on the fisheries council that preceded the Christmas recess. It is worth while noting the progress that was made at the December fisheries council, in particular the fact that the UK delegation rejected unjustified and unscientific proposals to close large areas of the North sea to all fishing.

It would be handy if we found out when it will be approved, as I would not like the matter to drift. We are quite close to recess, so we should push the Law Society to give us an idea of the timescale.We should also write to the Scottish legal services ombudsman, Linda Costelloe Baker, to invite her to the committee.

We will agree our final report on the Antisocial Behaviour etc (Scotland) Bill on 3 February, then we will have time to discuss matters before that month's recess. It looks as though a seminar cannot be timed to proceed before the end of February or the beginning of March.
