Prostate Cancer UK and William Hill Team Up to Beat Prostate Cancer

  • Submitted by: Miles Briggs, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 May 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-12377

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a campaign by Prostate Cancer UK and William Hill to raise awareness in Scotland about the condition; understands that it is the most common cancer in men, killing 1,000 every year in Scotland and one every 45 minutes across the UK; recognises that early diagnosis is key to successful treatment; believes that targeting customers in betting shops, who are typically male and over 50, will enable the charity to reach a large number of those at risk; congratulates all 310 William Hill shops in Scotland on supporting this campaign; welcomes the support of ABB Scotland, which is the trade body for the bookmaking sector and is part-funding the campaign, and encourages anyone with concerns to contact Prostate Cancer UK's specialist nurses in confidence on 0800 074 8383 or online by visiting prostatecanceruk.org.
