Provision of Ambulance Services on Mull

  • Submitted by: Michael Russell, Argyll and Bute, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 07 March 2016
  • Motion reference: S4M-15834
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament understands that there is strong concern among the people of Mull regarding ambulance provision on the island; believes that, over the last 18 months, several commitments have been given with regard to finding and implementing a solution before the start of the tourist season, but with the season about to begin, nothing has been agreed; notes the reported 1,000-signature petition from islanders expressing support for the community council's health group in its discussions with the Scottish Ambulance Service and NHS Highland regarding the matter; understands that the residents were consulted in an options process about ambulance cover that, although informed by figures provided by the Scottish Ambulance Service, was not regarded as accurate by the community; believes that the people on the island did not choose the solution of augmented GP cover that the ambulance service and the NHS board are trying to impose following the consultation; is disappointed at what it considers this lengthy process not producing the result sought by the community, which is the provision of both an additional fast response vehicle and an extra member of ambulance staff on the island, and notes the calls for the ambulance service and the NHS board to accept and implement this preferred solution without further delay.
