36th Celtic Media Festival

  • Submitted by: Michael Russell, Argyll and Bute, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 22 April 2015
  • Motion reference: S4M-12998

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of the 36th Celtic Media Festival, which is being held in Inverness from 22 to 24 April 2015; notes that the first festival, which grew out of the work of the Gaelic cinema and video project, Cinema Sgire, was held on the island of South Uist in April 1980; is aware that the event has taken place every year since in one or other of the Celtic nations; notes that, this year, it is being held in Scotland for a record seventh time; commends the work of the many broadcasters, film makers and others who have supported and developed the festival over the last 35 years; believes that this support has made it both the key annual gathering of those working with the media and minority languages in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany and Cornwall and the premier showcase for excellence in programme making, and wishes the event every success.
