  • Submitted by: Kenneth Gibson, Cunninghame North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 15 March 2012
  • Motion reference: S4M-02378

That the Parliament supports international epilepsy awareness day, Purple Day, on 26 March 2012, in which epilepsy charities from over 100 countries will participate and aim to raise awareness of the condition; understands that epilepsy affects 1 in 97 people in Scotland and considers that events, including the Purple Day Celebration hosted by Epilepsy Connections in Glasgow, will help diminish taboos associated with epilepsy and improve the understanding and needs of people with the condition; recognises advances in the training of neurologists, with the launch by the UK Joint Neurosciences Council of the world’s largest neurological web-based training resource, ebrain, which comprises more than 550 lessons and 23 comprehensive modules, and notes the future publication of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network-reviewed guidelines for epilepsy in adults and children in April 2013, which is aimed at improving epilepsy diagnosis, treatment and management, and encourages members to support epilepsy in Scotland by wearing Purple Day badges.
