That the Parliament congratulates Nurina Sharmin, an engineering graduate, on receiving UHI Perth's 2024 Alumni of the Year award; understands that Nurina, now an integration engineer with BAE Systems, was presented with the award by UHI principal and vice-chancellor Vicki Nairn during an online ceremony in December 2024; notes that the award recognises her professional success, dedication to her community, and continued support for UHI as an alumni ambassador; understands that Nurina graduated from UHI Perth in 2020 with a BEng (Hons) in Aircraft Engineering and Air Transport Operations and, during her studies, held leadership roles including vice-president for education and engagement with the Highlands and Islands Student Association and as a student member on the UHI Perth Board of Management, and later completed a master’s degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Leeds; acknowledges that Nurina led the Falcon 2 project (2022–23), funded by Boeing and the UK Department for Transport, which involved students in designing an inclusive flight simulator; understands that Nurina is a member of the Women in Aviation Aerospace and Space Committee, is chair of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers West Yorkshire Young Members, serves as an aviation ambassador for the UK Department for Transport, promoting careers and pathways within aviation and aerospace, is a school governor with the Trinity Multi-academy Trust, overseeing a primary school and supporting local education and social mobility, and is also a civilian instructor with the Royal Airforce Air Cadets; acknowledges that Nurina has remained closely connected to UHI since her graduation, serving as an alumni ambassador and supporting prospective and current students; commends Nurina’s work and accomplishments in aerospace, and believes that her contributions are a great example of the success and impact graduates can achieve in Scotland, and extends its very best wishes to Nurina for continued success in the future.
