That the Parliament commends the Dumbarton-based Skylark IX Recovery Project on the unveiling of the Skylark IX Community Tapestry during a special launch event at the Lennox Evangelical Church in Dumbarton; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of this tapestry as it celebrates the legacy of the Dunkirk Little Ship, Skylark IX, from 1934, which is currently undergoing restoration at the Scottish Maritime Museum; understands that the tapestry was made as part of the nationwide Year of Stories; acknowledges the dedication that was put in over 14 months, with, it understands, the majority of the group being in recovery from addiction or facing social isolation, and beginners to embroidery and applique; notes the use of recycled fabric, thread and yarn in the creation of the tapestry, which were donated by those in the community, as well as the involvement of the Project’s Community boatbuilders, who crafted the wooden battens, which, it understands, emphasises Skylark’s spirit and the importance of resilience; notes what it sees as the benefits of this project; understands that members of the stitching group felt calmer with reduced levels of anxiety as they created the 12 imagined scenes of the tapestry, with each scene containing a small heart, which was inserted to convey the love for Skylark, and that the project has for the community, and thanks Jade West and Suzanne Marshall-Smith for successfully leading this initiative of portraying Skylark’s legacy through the voices of the community.
