Scotland the Best, Perthshire Delis

  • Submitted by: Jim Fairlie, Perthshire South and Kinross-shire, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 21 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07955

That the Parliament congratulates the three Perthshire Delis, Hansen’s Kitchen, in Comrie, JL Gill, in Crieff, and The Scottish Deli, in Dunkeld, on being named as three of the top five delis in Scotland, according to the respected publication, Scotland the Best, which was recently published in The Times newspaper, with a forthcoming 14th edition to be released in November 2023; understands that Scotland the Best was first published in 1993 by Peter Irvine, and has won numerous awards and sold close to 250,000 copies, while highlighting the very best that Scotland has to offer; further understands that Hansen’s Kitchen has been described as a deli-cafe that calm and couthy Comrie deserves, that JL Gill is an extraordinary shop that has been on West High Street for more than 125 years and is the "Real epicurean McCoy", and that The Scottish Deli is a foodie’s delight on Dunkeld’s handsome high street; considers that these delis help confirm Perthshire as a must-visit food and drink destination with numerous award-winning businesses, including farm shops, delis and distilleries that add weight to the region's identity as Scotland’s food and drink larder, and wishes each business continued success and recognition in the future.
