The Bestowal of SABS' Official Coat of Arms

  • Submitted by: Bill Kidd, Glasgow Anniesland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 28 October 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06440

That the Parliament understands that the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society (SABS) was honoured to have been presented with its official Coat of Arms by The Rt Hon the Lord Lyon King of Arms, at Cathcart Old Parish Church, Glasgow, on 22 October 2022; further understands that it has become the first ever Muslim group to hold its own armorial ensigns in the 350 years of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland; understands that the Scottish Shia community, represented by SABS, is most grateful to The Rt Hon the Lord Lyon for the bestowal of the Coat of Arms, which, it believes, will serve to vitalise the grassroots of the Scottish Shia and Muslim community, and for what it understands is his vision of bringing about an inclusive and diverse Scotland that celebrates the identity of Scottish Shia Muslims and all minority groups or otherwise, and recognises what it sees as the Lord Lyon's commitment to ensuring Scottish heraldry is an egalitarian institution.
