That the Parliament welcomes the construction of a new state-of-the-art tennis centre at Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre, based at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus; understands that the ambitious development will feature six indoor tennis courts and world-class tennis amenities upon opening in late summer 2023; further understands that the new tennis centre will be made available to local and national communities to encourage people of all abilities to get involved in the sport; believes that the centre will boost employment in the area via construction and by supporting new tennis coaching and community roles; acknowledges that the tennis centre is funded in partnership between Heriot-Watt University, the Lawn Tennis Association, sportscotland and Tennis Scotland through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis (TSIT) fund; understands that Oriam also provides innovative facilities and latest equipment for a range of recreational and performance sports including football, rugby, squash, handball and futsal, and hopes that the new tennis facility will inspire and nurture the next generation of tennis stars while encouraging more people to participate in sport and exercise.
