Director of Edinburgh International Festival Fergus Linehan Receives Edinburgh Award 2021

That the Parliament congratulates Fergus Linehan, Director of Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) (2014-22), on receiving the 2021 Edinburgh Award; notes the presentation of this award at Edinburgh City Chambers on 8 December 2021; recognises that the Edinburgh Award, first introduced in 2007, is a way for Edinburgh residents to pay a lasting tribute to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the capital through their achievements; notes that the awarding decision is taken by a judging panel chaired by the Lord Provost, with representatives from all political groups on the City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce; commends Fergus for the commitment shown alongside the whole EIF team in staging festival events across Edinburgh and engaging with the local community and the festival’s international partners; credits the leadership of the Edinburgh International Festival for maintaining performances, including online, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and wishes Fergus and the EIF well for the future, including for the 75th anniversary programme for 2022.
