  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 05 October 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01502

That the Parliament congratulates VolkerStevin on being awarded the Best Infrastructure Award for the Glen Mallan Northern Ammunition Jetty project at the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards 2020-21; understands that the contractor worked with the client, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, and partners Jacobs and Arch Henderson to replace the jetty in Glen Mallan on Loch Long to support the Royal Navy’s surface fleet and accommodate the new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers; notes that the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards are jointly managed by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Scotland and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Scotland; considers the awards to be the premier showcase for engineering excellence in the built environment, celebrating innovation and the vital contribution that civil engineers make to designing, upgrading and maintaining the national infrastructure that keeps people safe and underpins our way of life in Scotland; understands that the judging panel commended the jetty’s replacement as a perfect example of engineering excellence, delivered under significant physical challenges due to the remote location and limited road access, and applauds all the teams involved in making the project such a success.
