  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 29 July 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00775

That the Parliament congratulates the Orkney stonemason, John Hamilton, on the completion of a six-tonne replica 1950’s Chevrolet motor that has been hand-carved out of stone as part of his Friends of Stoneworks Orkney fundraising project; notes that John, who is from Kirkwall, started the project in August 2020 and has spent an estimated 1,000 hours on the replica model; understands that the completed work was recently lifted on to position in a nearby charity feature garden, where work has now started on a pair of replica Orkney chairs; acknowledges the support of the area's businesses to John, including from Orkney Aggregates, R.S. Rendall Ltd and Orkney Paving, and the support received from David Taylor, Douglas Stevenson, and Eddie and Tracey Drever, who have all donated towards the project, which will soon have an online fundraiser page; notes that proceeds are going towards Orkney Blide Trust, Macmillan Orkney, Friends of Neuro Ward and NHS Orkney Endowment Fund; commends John, a well-respected stonemason of over 40-years’ experience, on this charitable achievement, and wishes him well for the completion of the project and his other endeavours.
