Dumbarton MV Second Snark Saved

  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 January 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-20322

That the Parliament notes that the Dumbarton-built ship, the MV Second Snark, which was built by William Denny and Brothers in 1938 and took generations of day trippers “doon the watter”, has been saved from the scrapyard; further notes that Hamish Munro of Clyde Marine Services, a former owner of the boat, has brought it back to the Clyde from Plymouth and donated her to the new charity, the Second Snark Preservation Society; understands that the society has now launched a fundraising appeal to raise the £350,000 needed to complete the restoration of the vessel to get her sailing again; thanks Hamish for saving the Snark and donating it to the society, and wishes the Second Snark Preservation Society all the best with its fundraising efforts.
