Name a Street after Tom Gilzean

  • Submitted by: Miles Briggs, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 08 November 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-19799

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a petition by the Edinburgh Evening News to name a prominent street in the capital after the late fundraising hero and war veteran, Tom Gilzean; appreciates that Tom, who recently passed on at the age of 99, raised over £1 million for the Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity and other good causes over many decades of dedicated fundraising; acknowledges that he had been honoured with the prestigious Edinburgh Award and was recently appointed an MBE; considers that naming a street after Tom would be a popular and appropriate way to recognise his massive contribution to charity and philanthropy in Edinburgh, and encourages people to visit change.org/p/gofundme-name-prominent-edinburgh-street-after-fundraising-legend-tom-gilzean and sign the petition to help demonstrate what it considers to be the popular support for this move.
