Success of Oor Wullie Auction at Thainstone Mart

  • Submitted by: Lewis Macdonald, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 19 September 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-18961

That the Parliament recognises that the auction at Thainstone Mart of statues from Oor Wullie's BIG Bucket Trail in and around Aberdeen and Inverness raised £316,700 for the Archie Foundation, with "the Amazing Oor Wullie" raising the most for any individual statue at £15,000; acknowledges that other popular statues included "Oor Roughneck", a tribute to offshore oil and gas workers, and "Oor Wullie Miller", bearing an uncanny resemblance to Aberdeen FC legend, Willie Miller; commends all those involved in setting up Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail and the auctions at Thainstone and elsewhere, and looks forward to the money raised benefitting children and young people in Scotland’s hospitals for years to come.
