That the Parliament recognises that the 40th Largs Viking Festival will take place from 31 August to 8 September 2019, celebrating Largs’ pivotal role in Scottish history; considers that the festival has a particular focus on the Battle of Largs in 1263, which ultimately helped secure the liberation of the Inner and Outer Hebrides and the Clyde islands from the Kingdom of Norway and their addition to Scotland following the Treaty of Perth in 1266; acknowledges that, as in previous years, a highlight of the wide ranging festival programme will be the Viking Village, where visitors can discover what life would have been like in a 13th Century Viking Village; commends the Largs Viking Festival Committee for the seamless organisation of this excellent contribution to Largs’ culture and heritage, which in turn stimulates the local economy and spreads knowledge of a fascinating era of Scottish history; wishes the organisers, participants and attendees of Largs Viking Festival every success at this year’s event, and hopes the festival will continue to flourish for many more years to come.
