Cammy Shanks Raises £10,850 for Maggie’s Forth Valley

  • Submitted by: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 27 June 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-18017

That the Parliament congratulates Cameron "Cammy" Shanks, who is from Stenhousemuir, on raising a fantastic £10,850 for Maggie’s Forth Valley; understands that, with the support of his wife, Claire, and his family, Cammy, who was recently diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer, organised a charity fundraising night at the Beancross Restaurant and Hotel in Polmont, which sold out in a day, attracting many donations that were auctioned or raffled off; acknowledges that the night also included entertainment from Cammy, who has been a DJ in the area for many years; notes the positive impact that organisations such as Maggie’s can provide; acknowledges that its Forth Valley centre, which is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, is entirely reliant on voluntary donations and that its running costs are around £2,400 a day; recognises also the efforts of nine of Cammy’s ex-colleagues from Forth Valley Police, who plan to take on the Three-peaks Challenge in August 2019 to raise more money for the centre; commends Cammy and his family and friends on their fundraising and efforts to raise awareness of the vital lifeline that the Maggie’s centres provide, and encourages everyone to take inspiration from Cammy in his efforts to give something back to those who have supported him.
