Edinburgh College’s Mandy Purdie Wins Lecturer of the Year Award

  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 20 May 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-17351

That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh College’s hospitality curriculum leader, Mandy Purdie, on winning the Lecturer of the Year award at Business Women Scotland’s Women in Hospitality Awards at Waldorf Astoria, Edinburgh, on 16 May 2019; notes that Mandy’s success follows a year of working closely with more than 1,000 school pupils across Edinburgh and the Lothians, giving them an insight into the professional cookery and hospitality industry and inspiring many to consider careers in the sector; recognises that she has engaged with a number of schools to provide pupils with cookery and hospitality principles where home economics provision is lacking; understands that the schools programmes for P1 to S4 include hospitality takeover days in college, pop-up hospitality demos in schools, the delivery of SVQ 4-lite qualification to S4s at Castlebrae High School and mentoring for pupils at Craigroyston High School, and wishes Edinburgh College’s hospitality department all the best for the future.
