  • Motion reference: S5M-16752

That the Parliament welcomes the signing of a Friendship Charter between Letterkenny Municipal District and West Dunbartonshire Council, which took place at a special event in Clydebank Town Hall; understands that the charter, signed by the Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr Ian McGarvey, the Donegal County Council Director of Service, Liam Ward and Provost William Hendry and Bailie Denis Agnew of West Dunbartonshire Council; acknowledges the historical ties between the two regions forged by generations of Donegal people travelling to Scotland, setting up home and integrating with the local community in Clydebank while simultaneously retaining strong links with Donegal; recognises the opportunity that arises from close cooperation to strengthen educational, sporting, tourism and economic links for the benefit of both communities, and wishes both well in maintaining and growing their historic links.
