New Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance Helicopter Announced for Aberdeen

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 November 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14651

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) will be introducing a second helicopter to the fleet operated by the air ambulance service; understands that this is a direct result of a successful fundraising campaign, upon which the SCAA service is wholly reliant; notes that, since launching in 2013, the service has responded to 1,934 calls for assistance; believes that this additional capacity will help improve the service available across Scotland and that basing the helicopter in Aberdeen is particularly appropriate, given the reliance on the air ambulance in rural and island communities across the north of Scotland; thanks the public and many businesses, trusts and other organisations for their generosity in supporting this lifesaving and life-improving cause; acknowledges the campaign led by The Press and Journal, and looks forward to SCAA reaching its fundraising target over the coming months so that the helicopter can become fully operational during 2019.
