Abellio Trade Union Recognition

  • Submitted by: Colin Smyth, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 08 October 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-14244

That the Parliament welcomes the signing of a new recognition agreement between the TSSA union and Abellio at its contact centre in Fort William; however, notes with disappointment that Abellio has yet to sign recognition agreements with the TSSA in its other two contact centres in Scotland, at Robertson Street and Culzean House in Glasgow despite, it considers, the TSSA’s attempts to negotiate with the company; believes that such action goes against the spirit of the Scottish Government’s fair work agenda; considers that this is particularly unacceptable when Abellio is in receipt of a franchise worth over £7 billion over 10 years from the Scottish Government; condemns the behaviour of Abellio and reaffirms its belief that good industrial relations supports productivity and engagement in the workplace, as well as supporting wider social priorities, such as equality of opportunity, equal pay, health and safety, and learning and skills acquisition, and calls on the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity to put pressure on Abellio, as a supplier to the Scottish Government, to comply with the government's policies on fair work by engaging immediately with the TSSA in negotiating a recognition agreement.
