Congratulations to Beith Parish Church

  • Submitted by: Kenneth Gibson, Cunninghame North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 August 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-13486

That the Parliament congratulates Beith Parish Church on securing a £76,800 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund; understands that this funding will be used to repair water damage, restore the church’s main tower and clock faces, maintain the roof, improve accessibility and increase the energy efficiency of the building; believes that these works will significantly increase Beith Parish Church’s appeal as a heritage tourism destination, as well as improving facilities for the congregation and local community, who use the church for a variety of purposes; notes that the first service at Beith Parish Church took place in August 1810 and that public tours are available with an exhibition of artefacts, church records and an audio-visual display to help visitors learn about the building’s history, and wishes Beith Parish Church every success with the rest of its fundraising and restoration efforts.
