Aberdeen to Inverness Rail Improvement Project

That the Parliament welcomes the project to upgrade the railway infrastructure between Aberdeen and Inverness, which will improve connectivity and journey times between the two cities; notes that phase one of the project from Aberdeen to Dyce is near completion, which will be followed by phase two of the project from Dyce to Inverurie; understands that the improvements being carried out by Network Rail will enable the majority of Aberdeen to Inverness services to consist of High Speed Trains, providing 1,400 additional seats each day and the introduction of half-hourly, all-day services between Aberdeen and Inverurie, providing 3,000 additional seats each day; further understands that there will be new through services between Inverurie and Montrose, extended platforms at Insch to accommodate higher speed trains and additional Aberdeen to Elgin early morning and late evening services; notes that over 100 jobs have been created in the north east for the completion of the construction phase of the project, and calls on the Scottish Government to follow this improvement project with further investment in upgrading the railway infrastructure to the south of Aberdeen, in particular at Montrose.
