Changing Places Facility at Dundee Railway Station

  • Submitted by: Bill Bowman, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 02 May 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-12038

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a Changing Places facility will be installed in the new Dundee railway station for the benefit of those with complex care needs; notes that initial plans for the station did not feature such a facility, and recognises the hard work and determination of PAMIS, which works with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families, in campaigning for its inclusion; understands that, beyond the provision of standard accessible facilities, a lack of suitable toilet provision for people with significant disabilities can increase the difficulty that they face in engaging in activities such as shopping, eating out and attending cultural events; believes that a Changing Places facility in the heart of Dundee makes the city more accessible for people with complex support needs and sends a clear signal that the city welcomes everyone; welcomes any increase in Changing Places provision across Scotland, especially at key locations, for residents and visitors to enjoy local amenities, and encourages greater engagement with PAMIS to explore options to do so, and hopes that the new facility at the railway station helps people with complex needs to better manage any challenges that they may face when visiting Dundee.
