  • Motion reference: S5M-12033

That the Parliament welcomes the return of the Boswell Book Festival, which will take place at Dumfries House from 4 to 6 May 2018, and which it understands is the world’s only festival of biography and memoir; notes that the festival honours the legacy of one of Ayrshire’s literary giants, James Boswell, who is widely credited as the father of modern biography and whose name has become a synonym for a constant companion and observer; acknowledges that, this year, the programme will span talks, performances and workshops by writers, actors and artists, including Dame Judi Dench, Anthony Horowitz, Jackie Kay, Sally Magnusson, Andrew O'Hagan, Matthew Parris and many more; believes that the Boswell Book Festival is a wonderful event that cements Ayrshire’s place as a thriving hub of Scottish literature, and which brings visitors and investment to the local area, with many choosing to stay in local accommodation and visit other heritage sites during the festival weekend, and congratulates the Boswell Trust on its continued success in promoting heritage, literary arts and education in Ayrshire and beyond.
