Grangemouth High Pupils Win Youth and Philanthropy Initiative

  • Submitted by: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 15 March 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-11054

That the Parliament congratulates fifth year pupils, Heather Ferguson, Gemma Alexander, Olivia Masterton and Rachael Bell, at Grangemouth High School who won the recent Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) and received £3,000 to donate to their chosen charity, Committed to Ending Abuse; understands that the group researched their local community and identified the local social service charity that they believed was best placed to make a positive contribution to their community; commends the young people on the hard work and effort that they put in; recognises that the YPI offers the opportunity for people to receive first-hand experience of philanthropy and advice on what they can do to make a positive impact on their communities through it; considers it important to understand the social issues faced by communities and what can be done to alleviate these issues by investment and support within them; notes that the winning pupils have committed to helping their chosen charity in their own time; encourages all young people across Falkirk district to follow their example and become champions of their own communities in tackling social issues; further congratulates Heather, Gemma, Olivia and Rachael on their hard work, which resulted in them winning the YPI, and wishes them well for their future.
