Big Build – Cambodia

  • Submitted by: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 09 January 2018
  • Motion reference: S5M-09807

That the Parliament commends Craig Leishman of Bo’ness, who is building contracts manager with CALA Homes, on his recent humanitarian work assisting to build 29 homes in 10 days for shanty town villagers in Cambodia; recognises that Craig and his colleagues at CALA Homes raised over £8,000 for the project, Big Build – Cambodia, which was organised by the housing charity, Habitat for Humanity; understands that Habitat for Humanity is a humanitarian organisation focused on long-term development, aid and poverty alleviation, with a mission to build a safe environment where families and communities can thrive; notes that the homes built consist of one room with a corner enclosed by an internal wall to provide running water, a toilet and handheld shower, which will help the poorest and most vulnerable people to lift themselves out of poverty by partnering with them to build their communities; praises the efforts of Craig, his colleagues at CALA Homes and all involved with the Big Build – Cambodia project, and wishes them continued success in their mission to end housing poverty.
