That the Parliament congratulates the four students from North East Scotland College whose sculpture designs have been chosen as the winning submissions to be installed on Broad Street as part of Aberdeen City Council’s City Centre Masterplan project; understands that the pieces, which will be around 1.5 metres in height, were all inspired by local history, and that 37 students from the Aberdeen City and Fraserburgh campuses submitted entries to the council’s competition to find artworks for the new civic space; recognises that the winning entries were from Margaret Brown, whose sculpture was inspired by a stained glass window in Marischal College, Calum Lawson, whose piece is based on the stag crest of the Gordon Highlanders Regiment, Sarah Calder, whose design was inspired by the story of a 1741 fire on Broad Street, and Catriona Tinsley, whose sculpture was inspired by the Puffin’ Briggie, a railway bridge that was removed in 1982; commends all the students who took part in the process, and looks forward to seeing the winning submissions on Broad Street in the future.
