  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 November 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-08786

That the Parliament congratulates the Ferry Inn in Stromness on being named the Best Bar/Pub at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (HITA), which took place at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 3 November 2017; recognises that the Ferry Inn is a community pub that supports a number of events in Stromness, such as the Folk Festival, Blues Festival and Shopping Week; understands that the Stromness business couple, Karen and Gareth Crichton, own the pub and have made significant investments over the years, including in staff training; notes the judges’ comments that “for the Ferry Inn, customer experience is at the forefront of all that they do”; believes that this accolade is credit to the staff at the Ferry Inn and further recognition of Orkney’s strong hospitality sector; notes that Karen and Gareth have also taken over Stromness’s Royal Hotel, and wishes them well with their current and new ventures.
