Nursery Children Bringing out the Youth in Older People

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 05 October 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-08142

That the Parliament acknowledges the joint work of Somerset Nursery and the Glasgow Old People's Welfare Association (GOPWA) in bringing together three to four-year-olds and older people once a week in the Fred Paton Centre in the east end of the city, to help lift the spirits of the older people; notes that, according to GOPWA, older people who might not live in the same city as their own grandchildren, enjoy the interaction that the children bring, and further notes that staff at the nursery took the idea to parents after the great success of a similar scheme used in Bristol, which was also filmed for a Channel 4 documentary.
