Insurance Industry in the Glasgow City Region

  • Submitted by: Adam Tomkins, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 21 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07839

That the Parliament welcomes research commissioned by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), which has found that the insurance and long-term saving industry supports 10,500 jobs in the Glasgow city region and contributes more than £1 billion per annum in Gross Value Added to the economy; notes that the research found that productivity among insurance workers is worth more than £135,000 per year, almost double the UK average across all industries, because of the highly-skilled workforce and high-value products that the insurance industry creates, and wishes the industry in Glasgow well in the coming years as it is a UK hub for commercial insurance that has underpinned trade across Scotland and the rest of the world.
