Deerness Distillery Awarded 2017 Spirit Masters Silver Medals

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 20 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07791

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney’s Deerness Distillery on being awarded silver medals at the Global Luxury Spirit Masters competition for two of its products, Sea Glass Gin and Into the Wild Vodka; understands that the results of the competition were announced on 7 September 2017 and that the managing director at the distillery, Stuart Brown, was over the moon with the silver medals amidst tough competition; notes that the Global Luxury Spirit Masters only takes super-premium spirits into consideration and that they are assessed by a panel of leading specialists and judged in a blind tasting; further notes that excellence is recognised by category and judged on appearance, aroma and flavour; believes that this latest success is a testament to the dedication of Stuart and the hard working team at Deerness Distillery; further believes that these awards highlight Orkney's high-end food and drinks sector, particularly in spirits producing, and wishes Deerness Distillery well for the future.
