A New Sense of Place at TouchBase Ayrshire

  • Submitted by: Kenneth Gibson, Cunninghame North, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 13 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07673

That the Parliament congratulates Sense Scotland on the formal opening of its new TouchBase Ayrshire centre, which will take place on 29 September 2017 in the previously unused north wing of Ardrossan Library, which was generously gifted to the charity by North Ayrshire Council; understands that Sense Scotland has already been providing services for people with communication support needs in Ayrshire for over 15 years and that TouchBase Ayrshire will provide an accessible, creative and welcoming environment that it considers will revolutionise the way that these services are delivered to young people, adults and their families; recognises that the centre will act as a community hub offering social and physical activities, including music and art, cooking and baking, sensory stimulation and gardening, to assist users in living active and independent lives; notes that TouchBase Ayrshire will also create opportunities for supported employment, evening services and groups, outreach services, collaboration with care providers and other organisations and develop a range of life skills and qualifications, and wishes Sense Scotland and its service users every success in their future endeavours in North Ayrshire and across Scotland.
