That the Parliament recognises the generosity of the Burntisland-based company, Briggs Marine, for ensuring the survival of Kirkcaldy Foodbank; understands that the foodbank was down to its last few months of funds, after demand for the service doubled in 12 months; greatly appreciates Briggs Marine for pledging to donate £1,000 per month to the foodbank for the next five years; understands that it is an independent foodbank and a registered charity organised and staffed entirely by volunteers; notes that they work in close collaboration with a wide network of referrers and community-focused agencies, and continue to supply food parcels to local people who find themselves in a situation of extreme food poverty; stresses what it sees as the importance of food banks as a vital service in light of UK Government welfare cuts, which it considers have had devastating impacts on low income families across Scotland, leading to high demand for foodbanks; urges other local businesses to do what they can to help the town's vital service, and admires the work of volunteers, donors and the local community for contributing to such an important part of the community.
