  • Date lodged: Monday, 04 September 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07466

That the Parliament is aware that 4 to 10 September 2017 marks the Scottish SPCA’s 10th annual Scottish Animal Week; notes that volunteers across the country will be raising funds for the organisation while its animal rescue and rehoming centres will be hosting open days to welcome members of the community; considers that the work of the the charity is important and valuable, including its Prevention through Education programme, which it delivers to 320,000 children across Scotland; is aware that last year its animal helpline received almost a quarter of a million calls, its inspectorate attended more than 85,000 incidents, and more than 20,000 animals were cared for across its nine animal rescue and rehoming centres and the national wildlife rescue centre; commends all Scottish SPCA staff and volunteers in Lothian and across Scotland for the contribution that they make, and hopes that this year’s Scottish Animal Week is a great success and raises significant extra funds to allow it to continue to work to improve animal welfare across the country.
