Loganair Flying Solo from 1 September

  • Submitted by: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 30 August 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07352

That the Parliament welcomes the re-launch of Scotland’s airline, Loganair, which will fly solo again from 1 September 2017, following 23 years operating under franchise arrangements with other airlines; notes that Loganair will again fly under its own name with a livery of black, white and red tartan, introducing a new, uniquely Scottish identity to the skies; further notes that Loganair has been serving the Highlands and Islands for over 50 years and currently operates 100 daily flights on 30 routes, which it believes to be more flights in Scotland than every other airline put together; notes that the Loganair network also includes the world-famous beach landing at Barra and the world’s shortest scheduled flight, linking the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray with flights taking only two minutes; considers that the lifeline services that it provides to the Highlands and Islands from Central Scotland are irreplaceable; acknowledges that the firm employs over 650 staff, operating a fleet of 28 aircraft and, alongside its scheduled services, undertakes contract services for Royal Mail and oil and gas companies as well as flying in medical supplies to Scotland’s islands on a daily basis; considers that Loganair helps to contribute significantly to Scotland’s economy and that of the Northern and Western Isles; looks forward to the airline continuing to provide the opportunity for people in Falkirk East and across Central Scotland to explore Scotland’s Northern and Western Isles, and wishes Loganair, Scotland’s airline, many more decades of serving Scotland and providing lifeline routes in the future.
