Asda's £875,000 Scottish Craft Beer Contract

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 August 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-07213

That the Parliament welcomes the news that St Andrews Brewing Company has agreed a contract with Asda to stock its craft beer in stores across Scotland; notes that with customer demand for craft beer growing, Asda has extended its range after collaborating with 10 breweries to bring an additional 25 new lines  with a total contract value of £875,000; further notes that, for St Andrews, and the Black Isle, Bellfield, Tempest and Alchemy breweries, this represents their first listing with Asda following the company’s collaboration with the Craft Beer Clan; understands that these deals mean that Asda's Scottish stores will now stock over 100 beers, ales and ciders brewed in the country; notes that its stores in Alloa and Dunfermline will be among those stocking these products, and considers this to be a further example of the company’s commitment to supporting Scotland-based suppliers.
