Royal Bank of Scotland Job Losses

  • Submitted by: Pauline McNeill, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 27 June 2017
  • Motion reference: S5M-06389

That the Parliament condemns the decision by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to cut 440 jobs in the UK while moving the roles to India; understands that this is just the latest round of jobs cuts to have taken place at the bank since it received a £45 billion public bail out in 2008; considers that, as the bank is still 73% owned by the taxpayer, it has a duty to protect jobs in the UK and to provide its customers with the best service possible, and believes that, rather than shedding jobs and closing branches, RBS should be encouraged to engage in imaginative initiatives to improve banking, the UK economy and society.
