That the Parliament congratulates the winners at the recent 2016 sportMoray Recognition Awards, which took place on 21 November 2016 in Elgin Town Hall; notes that there are 14 categories of awards, 13 of which were nominated by the public; understands that the winners were Iain McDonald, who is chair of Moray Cricket Association (Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils – Local Service to Sports Award), Ben Cameron from Forres who received the Junior Sports Athlete Award, given to a male or female sports athlete aged between nine and 13 who has achieved excellence at local, national or international level, George Grant, a cyclist from Elgin who received the Veteran Sports Athlete Award, given to an athlete aged 40 years or over who has achieved excellence in their chosen sport, Moray Cricket Association Girls Cricket Team and Forres Academy, which were joint winners of the Intermediate Team Award, with both teams made up of youngsters aged 12 to 18 demonstrating excellence, The Moray Gig, which received the Senior Team Award, Keith Gammie of Forres, who won the Coach Award, which is given to an individual who has contributed locally to the development of sport, in this particular case, trampolining, Craig Barron, who again won the Special Achievement Award for trampolining and who has done much to establish sports opportunities for disabled people, Mike Rodgers from Kintessock, who received the Club Level Award for his many years work with the Moravian Orienteering Club where he has made a significant impact, Stuart McQuaker from Birnie who won the School Sport Volunteer Award and has tirelessly supported the Active Schools project in its work in primary and secondary schools in Moray and as chairman of Elgin Eagles Basketball Club, Elgin Parkrun, which won the Community Engagement Award, after only being established in March 2016 and which is a 5km free activity taking place in the Cooper Park where walkers are just as welcome as runners to complete the distance; Dylan Parker-Banfield from Lossiemouth who collected the Intermediate Sportsman Award for his participation in kickboxing, the award being given to a male sports person aged between 14 and 17, Dylan having trained with Kaizen Kickboxing Club since he was six-years-old, Anna MacFadyen from Roseisle, who received The Heather Stanning Award for Intermediate Sportswoman for her participation in athletics; Sandra Dean of Elgin, who received the Senior Sports Athlete of the Year award for her commitment to bowling, and finally the overall Sports Personality of the Year Award 2016, which was chosen by a selection panel, was awarded to George Grant, the winner of the Veteran Sports category; welcomes the commitment of people of all ages in Moray to both participate in, and develop, a wide range of sporting activities accessible to all; sends its very best wishes to all those who received an award and the many very talented nominees in each category for future success, and commends Kim Paterson and the committee of sportMoray who have again organised an excellent awards evening celebrating the very best of sporting achievement in Moray.
