That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Shia Muslim and various Scottish Christian communities and all other contributors for their work toward their inaugural interfaith meeting on 24 November 2014 at the Trades House of Glasgow; recognises that the aim of the event is to initiate learning, conversation and relationships between members of the Shia community in Glasgow and further afield with Christian leaders; notes that participants include Sheikh Muhammad Kazim Ali from the Shia Muslim community, Mr Shabir Beg, a community member from Al Huda, the Deacon Convener of the Trades House of Glasgow, Dr Idris Jones, Emeritus Episcopalian Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway, and, from the Church of Scotland, the Rev Stuart Smith, the Moderator of Glasgow Presbytery, the Very Rev Bill Hewitt, Presbytery Clerk, and Rev Roy Henderson of the Presbytery Ecumenical Relations and Interfaith Matters Committee, Archbishop Mario Conti, Sr Isabel Smyth and Dr Anthony Allison from the Bishops’ Committee for Inter-Religious Dialogue from the Roman Catholic Church and the Rt Rev Gordon Mursell, Hon Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, the Rev John Conway, Convener, Provincial Committee for Relations with People of Other Faiths and the Rev Cedric Blakey, Diocesan Interfaith Adviser from the Scottish Episcopal Church; considers this a historic event and understands that it is the first of its kind in Scotland and was instigated by everyday Scots and Glaswegians of varying religious, political and civic persuasions, and looks forward to future such events of this ecumenical initiative for the benefit of Scottish society.
