Community Food Connection Scheme in Kelty

  • Submitted by: Annabelle Ewing, Cowdenbeath, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 18 September 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18976

That the Parliament welcomes the recent partnership between Oor Wee Café in Kelty, Tesco and food charity, FareShare, to collect surplus food and supplies from the supermarket chain through the Community Food Connection scheme; notes that Oor Wee Café, based in the Kelty community centre, has served local residents for more than seven years, providing hot meals and a welcoming space for conversation and community connection; further notes that the café operates on a “pay what you can afford” model and also runs a community pantry, allowing residents to access essential items such as tinned food, healthy meals, toiletries and pet supplies; recognises that this service is much appreciated in the community and will be supported in the future through this partnership arrangement, and thanks the volunteers whose energy and commitment make this possible.
