The Empire Café, Inspiring City Awards 2025 Winner

That the Parliament congratulates the Empire Café, winner of the Heritage Champion Award at the Inspiring City Awards 2025, for its innovative approach to exploring Glasgow’s historical connections to the North Atlantic Slave Trade; understands that the café was founded by Jude Barber and Louise Welsh and uses initiatives such as the podcast, Who Owns the Clyde, to promote discussion on ecological, social and economic futures; recognises the café’s efforts to educate the public, preserve heritage and foster community engagement; appreciates the role of staff, volunteers and collaborators in driving meaningful cultural dialogue, and commends the Empire Café for its ongoing contribution to Glasgow’s cultural, historical, and educational life.
